About the Role
The Metallurgical Engineer will play a key role in supporting melting and materials processing operations while driving continuous improvement in quality, yield, and performance. This is a hands-on, plant-facing engineering position with meaningful ownership and visibility.
The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in physical metallurgy, a respect for proven processes, and the ability to translate data and analysis into practical operational improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Support primary and secondary melting operations (VIM, VAR, ESR, or related processes)
Analyze chemical, mechanical, and microstructural data to ensure product conformance
Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for material or process deviations
Partner with operations and quality teams to improve yield, capability, and consistency
Support new alloy development, scale-up, and qualification activities
Interface with internal stakeholders and customers on technical requirements and material performance
Develop and maintain metallurgical documentation, specifications, and process standards
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and cost
Key Performance Indicators
Product quality and conformance to customer and regulatory requirements
Yield improvement and scrap reduction
Timeliness and effectiveness of corrective actions
Successful qualification of new alloys or processes
Safety performance and procedural compliance
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science
Experience in specialty metals, superalloys, titanium, stainless, or high-performance alloys
Working knowledge of melting and secondary processing technologies
Strong understanding of physical metallurgy and failure analysis
Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment
Clear communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Preferred:
Master’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science
Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated industries
Exposure to premium melting environments (VIM / VAR / ESR)
Familiarity with continuous improvement or Lean manufacturing principles
