About the Role

The Metallurgical Engineer will play a key role in supporting melting and materials processing operations while driving continuous improvement in quality, yield, and performance. This is a hands-on, plant-facing engineering position with meaningful ownership and visibility.

The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in physical metallurgy, a respect for proven processes, and the ability to translate data and analysis into practical operational improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support primary and secondary melting operations (VIM, VAR, ESR, or related processes)

  • Analyze chemical, mechanical, and microstructural data to ensure product conformance

  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for material or process deviations

  • Partner with operations and quality teams to improve yield, capability, and consistency

  • Support new alloy development, scale-up, and qualification activities

  • Interface with internal stakeholders and customers on technical requirements and material performance

  • Develop and maintain metallurgical documentation, specifications, and process standards

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and cost

Key Performance Indicators

  • Product quality and conformance to customer and regulatory requirements

  • Yield improvement and scrap reduction

  • Timeliness and effectiveness of corrective actions

  • Successful qualification of new alloys or processes

  • Safety performance and procedural compliance

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science

  • Experience in specialty metals, superalloys, titanium, stainless, or high-performance alloys

  • Working knowledge of melting and secondary processing technologies

  • Strong understanding of physical metallurgy and failure analysis

  • Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment

  • Clear communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science

  • Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated industries

  • Exposure to premium melting environments (VIM / VAR / ESR)

  • Familiarity with continuous improvement or Lean manufacturing principles
